CCR Denounces Impending Trump Order Profiling Muslims

January 24, 2017, New York – In response to news reports about Donald Trump’s executive order targeting Muslims and refugees, the Center for Constitutional Rights issued the following statement:

Trump’s executive order profiling Muslims is a foul stain on our country and all it is meant to stand for. It makes national policy of the anti-Muslim hate Trump expressed during his campaign and represents another senseless, bigoted arm of his domestic and foreign agenda.

Racial and religious profiling is illegal and immoral; by enacting this openly discriminatory policy, Trump is aiming to score political points on the backs of the most vulnerable in the world, and, in the process, his administration is rejecting our most fundamental commitment to international human rights.

This legally dubious gift to the hate-filled and xenophobic far right will be challenged by upstanding communities and civil and human rights organizations, not only here in the U.S. but around the world.

The Center for Constitutional Rights stands ready to support all targeted communities: we cannot let this happen.
