March 28, 2014, New York – Today, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) released the following statement in response to the announcement that Phil Eure was appointed as the first Inspector General for the New York City Police Department:
The Center for Constitutional Rights is looking forward to working with Phil Eure when he assumes his post as the first NYPD Inspector General, a position we advocated for with our allies in the community and members of the City Council for many years. We are hopeful that together with the court monitor from our stop-and-frisk case, Mr. Eure will bring much needed accountability to the NYPD. The new IG can shed critical light on the practices of the department and be instrumental in the reform the people of New York have demanded.
