Hearing Before Judge Wilson Fields in 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge
During the hearing, CCR took testimony from Matthew Block, Executive Counsel to Governor John Bel Edwards, about the office’s response to the Bucket Brigade’s records request. Testimony centered around the fact that the office initially asserted it had no records showing meetings between the governor and pipeline company representatives but later provided emails about a meeting between the Edwards and former U.S. senator Mary Landrieu, who was serving as a consultant to the pipeline company. Block also confirmed in testimony that the meeting was not reflected on his official calendar. Despite the concerns raised at the hearing and during the testimony about the office’s flawed search for records, the court denied the Bucket Brigade’s request for an additional search and dismissed the case.
